Cathy Marshall, founder and winemaker at her namesake winery, graduated from Elsenburg College in 1991. She apprenticed at various local cellars interspersed with international experiences in France (Burgundy and Bordeaux), the USA (California and Oregon) and Australia. A festive three-barrel foot stomp event attended by a handful of friends on a South African beach in 1996 produced a very palatable Syrah and saw the founding in 1997 of the first true micro-winery in the Western Cape. Catherine Marshall Wines has long outgrown its humble origins to become a legendary institution and exporting to a number of markets worldwide. Since 2011 Cathy's son Jono has been involved in the winery, and now serves as Assistant Winemaker, often seen working side-by-side with his mother in the cellar and at wine events.
