Trizanne Signature Wines Reserve Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon 2020

125

Wine of Origin

Elim, Western Cape, South Africa.

In the vineyard

The Elim ward, close to the southern tip of Africa where two great oceans meet, boasts a unique terroir, characterised by prevailing winds that create a cool ripening season, ideal for producing Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. This diverse terroir features soils ranging from sandstone to cold laterite and broken shale, resulting in low yields and wines that exhibit pronounced minerality, depth, and structure. As part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, Elim is an environmentally sensitive area where wine production harmonises with the preservation of indigenous species.

In the cellar

Harvest started in the second week of February and continued for two weeks. The different parcels were whole bunch pressed and naturally fermented in a combination of new and older French oak barrels. Extended lees work during primary fermentation. The wine was left of the lees after fermentation for 10 months. Meticulous blending of the various parcels took place before bottling in December 2020.

Tasting notes

Rich aromatics of lime, white flowers and a touch of herbs. The Elim minerality is very apparent on the palate, layered with fruit and subtle wood spice. An elegant wine with incredible longevity and ample ageing potential.
